Beef sandwich

The first meal I ever learned to cook, good when you want your protein!

Shopping List

1 medium onion
1 lb. ground beef*
8 oz. can plain tomato sauce (not paste!)
2 T olive oil
cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper

How To

Add the oil to the skillet over medium heat.
Add the ground beef and chop with a spoon to crumble; stir occasionally as the meat browns.
Meanwhile peel and chop the onion.

When the meat is nearly browned, add the onion and continue to cook and stir until the meat is evenly browned and the onions cooked. The meat will look a little dry and there will be grease in the pan.

Using a lid to hold the meat in the pan, pour off the grease into a small can or jar and dispose of it (best not to pour it down the drain!). OR use a cooking spoon to spoon out the grease from the pan.

Return the pan to medium heat and sprinkle the meat & onion mixture lightly with salt and pepper.
Stir in 1-2 tsp. chili powder and 1-2 tsp. cumin, depending on your taste.
Stir in the tomato sauce.

Reduce heat to low and cook 5 more minutes.
4-5 servings.

Suggested serving: On hamburger buns with pickles, mustard, and if you like, extra chopped onions. Great with a potato side dish and a cooked veggie or salad.
